JEAN OBERMEYER PEARSON

Picture
Jean Obermeyer grew up in Newton, Massachusetts and first came to Sandwich to live with family friend Ruth Conley for the summer and worked at “The Wentworth Place.”  She met her future husband, Dana Pearson, that summer and they were engaged by years end. After Dana returned from service in the Army, they married and purchased a home on Diamond Ledge Road (the former Marston Farm) where they would live for almost 50 years.

Jean graduated from the School of Nursing at Deaconess Hospital in 1957 and started working at the new Sandwich Medical Center for three years. As her children came and grew, she was a Girl Scout leader, a member of the Mt. Israel Grange and the Federated Church Kenyon Club. She later was the summer camp nurse for Mead Wilderness Base boy’s camp.

Jean when she worked at Taylor Community

Jean assisted many people in town over the years in a home health capacity. Stories have been shared of her coming to the aid of an older resident with a minor medical need in their home or sitting in the hospital waiting room with a worried wife as her husband was in an operation. After her children were older, she worked at the Laconia State School, the NH Veteran’s Home, Goldenview Healthcare, finishing her nursing career at the Taylor Community.
