Walk Through Whiteface Village and Weed's Mills

The Sandwich Historical Society is sponsoring a historical walk and talk through Whiteface Village, formerly known as Weed's Mills, on Saturday, July 25 at 10:00 AM.

Jon Taylor will lead the group starting at the Whiteface Fire Station (354 Whiteface Rd, North Sandwich) with a short briefing on the history of the first settlers and history of the properties from Wing Road north, including the White Church, Bagley Weed Grant (October Farm), Perkins Farm, Messiah Church, and the Frederick and David Tilton houses.

The group will then proceed north on foot from the Fire Station up Whiteface Road through the village south of the river, cross the river, and tour the sites of the Henry Weed saw mill, grist mill and carding mill on what is now known as the Pothole swimming area.

We will then proceed up to the Henry Weed house where the tour ends.  Allow about one to two hours, and some of the walk through the Pothole area is a bit rough walking.

THIS IS A RESCHEDULED EVENT; should weather be a problem again, the walk will first be delayed and start at noon, if weather is still poor, the event will take place the following day, Sunday July 26 beginning at noon.
