"OUR WOMEN OF SANDWICH"
(2020 Summer Exhibit)

Picture

MARY (STOVALL) HEARD
(1909-1982)

Mary Heard was born in Grayson, KY. She moved to Sandwich in 1948 and was the second wife of Stuart Heard.

She was very involved in the Federated Church of Sandwich, member and a past president of the Sandwich Ladies Aid Society and the Sandwich Woman’s Club.

In 1962 she was elected to the Sandwich Board of Selectmen, the first woman so chosen. She served from 1962-1965 and was elected chair in 1964.  Her term on the board overlapped with Representative Mary Senior Brown’s tenure in the New Hampshire Legislature.
