Snow Roller
Used in Whiteface until 1927.
Rebuilt in 1987. This snow roller is a typical example of the early
machine drawn by horses or oxen to clear the way in winter for sleighs.
The smoothest roads used to be snow-packed roads. The dimensions of
this roller are as follows: each roller is four feet wide, with a
diameter of almost six feet, and has 44 oak planks. The outside frame
measures nine feet six inches long and wide. It would have been drawn
by as few as four horses, or as many as twelve.
